Interpreting evidence. Building community. Advancing care.
The Society of Cutaneous Oncology is a multidisciplinary community of clinicians and investigators committed to improving outcomes for patients with skin cancer through evidence interpretation, constructive criticism, collaborative science, and education.
Our mission
The Society of Cutaneous Oncology brings together clinicians, scientists, trainees, and allied professionals dedicated to advancing the care of patients with skin cancer.
Interpret evidence
We review emerging data in cutaneous oncology and help translate evidence into thoughtful clinical practice.
Support reproducible science
We create forums for investigators to share methods, refine ideas, and develop collaborative projects.
Educate the field
We support clinicians, scientists, and trainees committed to the future of cutaneous oncology.
Our philosophy
Scientific progress depends on more than new data. It requires a culture in which evidence is interpreted carefully, assumptions are made visible, uncertainty is acknowledged, and ideas are strengthened through rigorous, respectful criticism.
The Society of Cutaneous Oncology was created to support that culture across cutaneous oncology.
How we are organized
SoCO was deliberately designed with a lightweight organizational structure. Consistent with our philosophy, we have chosen not to create a standing executive committee, leadership council, or hierarchy of titles. The aim is to keep participation open, encourage contributions across disciplines and career stages, and allow ideas to be evaluated on their merits.
The Society’s work is therefore shaped primarily by the people who participate in its Journal Club, Research Forum, collaborative projects, and other scientific activities.
The scientific convener brings together the Society’s scientific programming, helps coordinate topics and participants, and provides continuity across Journal Club, Research Forum, and related activities. The role is intended to be facilitative rather than hierarchical.
